Harry sat there in the Great Hall watching each table. It had been a long year so far. Everyone wanted to seemingly get to know him all of a sudden. He kept to his small friend group. Luna, Neville and Hermione. He didn't want extra attention on him.
So as people got over their hero worship of him and the school year went on Harry watched the small group of returned Slytherins. They were avoided as much as possible by the general population. So it became easy for Harry to watch one of the returned Slytherins.
Staying in classes with him, partnering up when no one else wanted to. It wasn't hard to gain a comfortable working friendship with him. The snarky fasade that had turned him away from wanting to be his friend in first year was now just a defensive response and something that Harry found more endearing then anything.
So the week that spawned Valentine's Day seemed to be the toughest for everyone who had been involved with the war. It was a day that signified life was returning to normal as the decorations changed.
Finally not wanting to be harassed Ginny asked Harry if they could not get back together as she had found someone else she wanted to date. Harry graciously agreed and wished her well. Since the war he hadn't been sure if he had wanted to return to the relationship with Ginny but knowing she moved on was best for him.
Now he sat there waiting to move across the great hall and ask The once ice prince of Slytherin to give him a chance. When they appeared Harry stood up. His courage seemed to be in full gear now. He had worn a green shirt today under his robes as he made his way to Draco.
Sitting across from him a small smile fixed itself on his lips as he took in the shocked look.
“What is going on Potter?” Draco asked light worry in his voice.
“Nothing Draco, I came to ask you if you would be my Valentine today,” Harry said.
Shock filled the eyes of Draco but warmth seemed to shine back as well.
“I would be amendable to that,” he said keeping his mask in place trying not to break into a huge grin.
Harry smiled as he held nothing back and grinned. With that he knew what he would do for the day. He had to get the small dining room ready now.
“I will pick you up before dinner so be prepared,” Harry said. “But I will also see you in class,” he said softly as he stood up.
Harry watched Draco nod. He wasn't sure if he saw worry but he had a plan but he had to get everything in place.
With a quick step Harry went to the kitchen and asked for a small dinner to be made for them which the elves quickly agreed. He said he would call for it when they were in the room he had picked. The elves assured him everything would be perfect.
Harry went to class and sat beside Draco like he had promised. The two carefully talked as the day went on. It was when dinner came that Harry saw his prince dressed up that his mouth went dry as he walked up and took his hand and led him deeper into the castle.
Harry had a small table for two set and called for the first meal. After it sat there Harry held out Dracos chair.
“Why are you doing this Potter?” Draco asked curiously after they ate and had quiet conversations about everything they wanted without worry.
Harry could see what this meant to Draco. He smiled at the young man before him. “a new start for us, I wasn't ready when we were younger to go against the norm, now I don't care if anyone says anything I don't want to be untruthful to myself. I have loved you Draco Malfoy since Fourth year, I realized when I was battling for my life that you were someone I could count on for consistency even when it was just fighting with you. I know everyone thought I was hyper fixated but I wanted to get closer to you,” he said.
Draco felt light headed as he listened Harry Potter wanted to be with him? Was this a cruel dream?.
Harry could tell his ramblings were making Draco panic so he moved closer and kissed him.
The world faded away for both of them as they fell into the kiss. Nothing had to change much about their relationship. They could still snark each other they just also were the only ones that had the right to kiss the other or hold the others hands.
That Valentine's Day meal became the first dinner together. Small things changed for the student body, Harry and Draco held hands in the halls, sat together for meals and were inseparable. It was not questioned by those that cared for either one and they protected their bubble of happiness when they were lost in each other's eyes. Draco and Harry became the couple to be regardless of gender.
Professor McGonagall smiled seeing her students put the war behind them and move on with their lives especially Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. She always thought they would have been the best couple to tear down house divides and she smiled, watching the couple kiss, knowing she was right.
