Given how season 5 ended with the question of did the nuke go off or didn't it a split timeline makes much more sense. The first scene of the flash sideways clearly revealed the island had sunk to the bottom of the ocean years ago allowing the main characters to live a life where they had never crashed.

The Island can be physically moved in space, while many of its occupants have been seen to move through time and space, to wherever the island is located at that moment in time. This phenomenon is achieved by tapping into the Island's energy source, as the frozen wheel does.

Michael Farrell was forced to grow up quickly after his father disappeared hunting for treasure on the fabled lost island of Inishmananan. Struggling to get by, one evening he and his mother receive a mysterious message from a ragged tramp who stops by their farm. The old man has proof that Michael's father is alive!

The Island has healing powers and cured John Locke of his paralysis and Rose Nadler of her cancer. It also functions as a "cork" that suppresses a dangerous force from escaping. At the Heart of the Island is a bright light, the source of "life, death, (and) rebirth" that needs to be protected.

Jack reawakens outside by a river and walks toward the bamboo forest. After Jack collapses to the ground, Vincent approaches him and lies next to him. Jack gazes happily at the sky while watching the Ajira plane fly overhead away from the island. Jack slowly closes his eyes as he dies.

Unfortunately, Michael's troubled past likely held him back from going with his former friends and could be the same reason why he was stuck on the island as a ghost. In fact, some believe that his decision to murder Ana Lucia and Libby made him unredeemable.

While many critics and fans like to say that Lost had a bad ending or finale, the problem was more to do with the whole final season than the ending itself. The season not only veered from drama and science fiction into full blown fantasy, but it was also written in an unsatisfactory manner.

In reality, Flight 815's mid-air break-up and crash was due to Desmond Hume failing to enter a code into the Swan station computer in time, causing a large burst of electromagnetic energy powerful enough to draw the plane inwards to the island.
